How it Works


Getting started—and using—Benevet is simple. Just do the following:

  • 1. Sign Up

  • Once our product has been released in 2020: Go to the Benevet signup page by clicking any Sign Up link on this site. These links will be available when we start taking signups, starting very soon! Signing up will then require entering your professional and licensing information, what types of animals you care for, and how you would like to be paid.

  • 2. List Your Availability

  • When logged in to Benevet,
    you may check or uncheck the boxes for Current Availability
    on any screen. The options are:
    1) Taking appointments,
    2) Available for immediate consultation or 3) Can receive messages. Using our calendar you may select the times/dates when you are available for appointments. When available for immediate consultation you will be notified by email (and by a popup if you are logged on to Benevet) that a client is waiting. When a client sends you a secure message you will also be notified by email.

  • 3. That's it!

  • You can now deliver veterinary care anytime from anywhere and get paid for your services.

Why should I use Benevet?
By providing increased access and convenience, Benevet helps improve overall health care delivery. Clients will be better informed, more actively involved, and more satisfied with your service. Benevet is convenient and efficient from a health care delivery standpoint, enabling you to manage and monitor from a distance while receiving payment for your services. Our software platform and business model have been designed to help you generate revenue with no increase in overhead. The system is flexible, allowing you to decide when and how to make yourself available for consultations and secure messages. Telemedicine is increasingly utilized in human medicine, and your clients will become familiar with and even expect this service.

What does it cost to get started?
There are no startup costs if you have a computer, high-speed Internet, and a webcam. Without a webcam, live video consultations are not possible, but live audio consultations, secure messages, and review of uploaded images are still options.

Who can I connect with using Benevet?
Rules and regulations regarding telemedicine can be unclear and in many cases have not kept up with technology. We recommend thatyou familiarize yourself with your regional laws and licensing board regulations. You may restrict your availability for online consultations and secure messages to only instances where there is an existing Veterinary-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR), or you may choose alsoto connect with new patients for advice and consultation. Benevet is available for veterinarians in different countries with different regulations, so there is not one definitive answer to this question. In some regions diagnosing and treating is not an option withouta valid VCPR, but offering general advice or a second opinion may be acceptable.

What medical issues can I address using Benevet?
Consider using Benevet to promote wellness, manage chronic illnesses, and evaluate acute minor illnesses. Second opinions and specialty consultations when another veterinarian has recently examined the patient are also well suited for online consultations. An office visit can always be recommended if necessary.

How does Benevet receive payment for this service?
Each veterinarian determines their charge for a consultation or secure message. We add a small service fee on top of that; the total, including our fee, is the price for services that will be seen by your clients. We have chosen to pass on a small fee per online interaction to your clients instead of a charging veterinarians to use the service, as this fits with our goal of making veterinary care more accessible but also ensuring (and hopefully increasing!) veterinary practice profitability.

How do I request a consultation with another veterinarian on Benevet?
One option is to send a message to the client requesting that they schedule a Benevet consultation - you may specify a particular specialty or veterinarian if desired, describe the reason for the consultation, and add any pertinent items (documents or images) that may be useful to the consultant. Alternatively, if you have a separate form usually filled out for the request, simply fill that out and scan it into theBenevet chart.

What operating systems and web browsers are compatible with Benevet?
Benevet runs in Internet Explorer 9 or above, and current versions of Chrome and Firefox on Windows desktops, laptops, and tablets;Safari and Chrome on the Mac and iPads; and Chrome on Android tablets. In order to participate in a video consultation, you'll also need a high-speed Internet connection.

How do I receive payments from Benevet?
Please make sure that your payment method in your profile is up-to-date, and we will send funds automatically using that method.You'll receive payments on the 1st day of each month for everything you have charged on or before the 25th of the previous month.

Can I contact my usual veterinarian on Benevet?
Yes, you may connect through Benevet with your usual veterinarian if they have set up a Benevet account. You may contact your veterinarian's office to notify them of your interest in Benevet online consultations.

I am having technical difficulties, what should I do?
If you have any questions, please contact our technical support team at support@benevet.com.

What happens if I get disconnected during a consultation?
If you get disconnected and still have an Internet connection, just log back in and you can pick up where you left off. If you or your client lose your connection entirely, you may reschedule the consultation. Just let us know at service@benevet.com and we can be sure payments are handled correctly.

How secure is the Benevet chart?
The Benevet servers are secured according to industry standards, and users can log in only with the correct ID and password. We constantly monitor our site and servers in order to prevent unauthorized access.

Can I get a copy of my note documenting a consultation?
The Benevet chart is a permanent electronic medical record for your consultations, secure messages, and uploaded images and documents. You and any veterinarian approved by the client may access the chart at any time. You may also print out a report for placement in a paper chart.

Does the scheduling system integrate with my existing practice management system?
At this point we are not integrated with practice management systems. One option to consider is blocking off specific times on your office schedule and opening up corresponding times on your Benevet schedule to avoid double booking. Utilizing Benevet outside your regular office hours is another simple way to get started.

Can I view radiology images on Benevet?
Radiology images can be uploaded for review and you can view most of them on Benevet, but some images can only be viewed with specific software packages unique to a particular vendor. If necessary a client can mail a CD with the images to you in advance with a follow-up consultation arranged to discuss the findings.

Does my current malpractice coverage apply to Benevet consultations and secure messages?
We recommend that you check with your insurance provider regarding this issue.be sure you don't get charged more than you should.
